The Sequence (2025)
for clarinet, violin, cello, and piano
Live performance by Unheard-of//Ensemble (abridged)
MuseScore mockup with score (full piece)
Written for the chamber group Unheard-of//Ensemble, my ethos approaching this project was intentionally a “back to basics” approach. I set myself the goal of making a piece that was accessible and avoided modernist techniques and dissonance, incorporating elements of my favorite idioms of popular music like synthwave, chiptune, progressive rock, and 20th-century classical music. The work’s title and the movement names allude to the internal formatting of music files in some classic video games.
Rogue Planetoid (2026)
for orchestra
Live reading by Vassar College Orchestra
MuseScore mockup with score
Writing for the Vassar College Orchestra, I dialed back the rock influences and went for a more fully “symphonic” sound with varied tempos and adventurous harmonies, while making a redoubled effort to make it easy to play; as someone who mostly writes music “in the box” (electronically on the computer) it was a interesting and fulfilling challenge.
Special thanks to my instructor Alan Hankers, the VC Orchestra, and my influences: Gustav Holst, Frank Zappa, Tim Follin, Józef Skrzek, and Stevie Wonder.
